Looking for Help to Express My Appreciation to my Mom

My latest Heart to Heart column in today’s newspaper helps readers express their love and appreciation to their mothers.

Heart to Heart column in the Naples Daily News:

Dear Laurie,

My mom is so amazing. She raised me as a single mom. I feel like I haven’t shown her enough of how amazing I think she is and how much I appreciate her for everything she did and put up with while raising me. My mom lives on the east coast of Florida. I do tell her I love her and my family and I see her monthly. But I guess I feel guilty for the tough time I gave her when I was in high school and as an adult I never addressed that with her. I wonder if she knows how grateful I am for everything she did for me. Do you have any idea on how can I show her or let her know?

Heart to Heart: Help me stop my critical voice

By Laurie Martin Community Contributor

Thursday, April 12, 2012

Dear Laurie,

I’ve read many books that say our thoughts, words and feelings affect our life circumstances. I am very hard on myself. I noticed that when I’m going through a challenge, I usually think I did something wrong, maybe I had a negative thought or a negative feeling that caused this, and I get mad at myself, become hyper critical, why didn’t I learn this lesson yet? Why am I still fearful about this? Why haven’t I grown past this? I read your column and love your helpful and positive approach to life. Do you have any suggestions on how I stop being so hard on myself?

Heart to Heart: Confused About My Life Purpose

Heart to Heart: Confused about my life purpose
By Laurie Martin Community Contributor

Thursday, March 1, 2012

Dear Laurie,

Recently, I have been wondering what my life purpose is. What am I meant to be doing? I thought I knew, but I struggle with doubt and insecurity. I know you can’t answer these questions for me through this column, but I was wondering, when you work with clients who are going through something similar, what would you advise they do to figure this out?

Thank you so much,

Dear Laurie,

I took a wonderful workshop with you recently in Maryland and was wondering if you can give me a mantra to help me in my life. What word or phase would you give me?

Thank you Laurie!

Truth and Accountability is Helping You and Our Planet!

I’m excited for my new personal accountability challenge! Everything we do either has a positive or negative effect on our world. And, now even more, our world needs our help! It’s time to really step it up. It’s encouraging to know that my own daily actions can help our world. Taking accountability is a representation of “truth” and “right action” which impacts the frequency of the collective consciousness and our own personal empowerment.

Everyday occurrences, even being aware and accountable for the small occurrences makes a difference. There have been times that we may have made excuses in our mind, told small white lies or pretended we were not responsible for something by making someone else accountable.

The planet is correcting itself now, and needs our help. As you have noticed, anything that is not set with a foundation of truth, honesty, kindness and oneness is coming up to the surface in consciousness, coming out in public for us to see. These actions of corruption, malicious behavior and deceit can’t hide any longer and people are being forced to take personal accountability. Let’s build our empowerment by voluntarily looking for ways to be 100% personally accountable.

Start by waking up in the morning and asking, “How can I help our planet? How can I be honest in all of my relationships, in business and my actions? How can I show empathy and compassion to others? How can I heal my own areas of judgment, racism, sexism, ageism, rage, and pain? How can I behave in a way that is the exact way I would like to be treated? How can I treat my body and mind with love and respect? How can I express from my heart? How can I connect with others on a heart level?

Look for these small daily occurrences to make a positive change. Here are some examples:

Give Yourself a Self-Care Week

Sick of hearing all of the negative news everywhere you turn? Worrying about your home, daily needs and our world affairs can be a little stressful too.

Take a week off from watching the news, reading the newspaper and engaging in conversations that make your blood boil or worrying about your parents. Instead, give yourself a “self-care” week. During this week, engage in conversations with people that are a positive influence in your life discussing things that make you happy, you will read only inspiring books, watch uplifting movies with happy endings, eat healthy organic fruits and vegetables, do your favorite cardiovascular exercise and take plenty of warm Epsom salt baths. During this self-care week you will only have positive thoughts about your family, the world, your career, your parents and your life. You will imagine the best possible scenario and live in the present moment fully.

Setting your intention for your self-care week: “I choose to release all of my concerns about my life, the world and the economy. I am committed to believing there is always a solution, there is an abundance of love, everything always works out and everything is in divine order. I choose to be peaceful no matter what situation arrises for me this week. I will take deep belly breaths and remember I am whole, safe, loved and needed!”

Here are a few fun things to converse about.

What are you passionate about that brings you joy? What was the wisest lesson you learned from your parent? When have you laughed the hardest lately and what were you laughing at? Who do you consider to be your role model and why? What is one of your favorite books and why? What was one of the silliest things you have ever done in your life :) ?

How do you know when you have grown in self love?

  1. When you are going through a tough situation you notice your inner strength is stronger than your sadness.
  2. When you are going through a tough situation and you are focusing on the wisdom you are gaining and how you are expanding your heart- more parts of yourself.
  3.  When you notice you are not personalizing other people’s behavior as much.
  4. When you notice you are able to vocalize and communicate instead of run away.
  5. When you have the courage and belief that you are cable of achieving something.
  6. When you describe situations from a higher, positive perspective.
  7. When you can see the goodness in others even when they are not feeling good about themselves.
  8. When you are able to forgive yourself easier.
  9. You are able to discern what isn’t working for you in relationships; you vocalize it in a responsible way and take action in a way that brings you to a healthy empowered place.
  10. You allow your true self to come out.
  11. You trust yourself, your intuition and feelings.
  12. You can laugh when you do silly things instead of reading yourself the riot act.
  13. You catch yourself when your mind is spinning on negative things or fixating on others too much, and you draw your energy back to positive thoughts more quickly.
  14. You are able to open your heart and love unconditionally.
  15. When you have more patience with your life path and your divine timing.
  16.  When you able to be genuinely happy for others when they are doing well.
  17.  When you are able to step into your feelings and be present without running or judging.
  18. When you notice that the people around you are wiser and more in their heart space than previous friends and romantic partners.

Can you relate to any of these?
